Job SummaryUnder the general direction of the Vice President/General Manager, the Design Engineer will have design responsibility for the shell and tube heat exchanger product line and assigned projects. Primary focus will be mechanical design, performing design calculations in accordance with the appropriate codes and standards, supervising the development of fabrication drawings and bill of materials. Position will work closely with the Thermal Engineer, Project Engineers, Designers and CAD Technicians and supervise their daily work on assigned projects and report progress. Position will also work closely with Project Manager and will be responsible for the coordination and resolution of project specific technical matters.

Main Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for Sales & Estimating during the inquiry process.
  • Review customer specifications and project documents for
  • Incorporation into drawing notes, bill of materials and purchase specifications.
  • Interface with customer to ensure technical requirements are met.
  • Conduct technical review meetings with other departments as required.
  • Develop the Bill of Materials.
  • Develop purchase specifications.
  • Produce mechanical, structural calculations in accordance with the appropriate codes and standards.
  • Generate drawings, specifications, and instructions necessary to convey project requirements to others.
  • Ensure integrity and consistency of mechanical and structural designs throughout assigned projects.
  • Review calculations, bill of materials, drawings, and other technical documents prepared by others.
  • Supervise daily work of Project Engineers, Designers and CAD Technicians assigned to projects and report progress to Vice President/General Manager and Project Manager.
  • Transmit all technical documents to the customer including but not limited to: drawings, calculations, quality plans, weld procedures, etc..
  • Respond to shop and field questions and/or non-conformances.
  • Support commissioning and start up of equipment in field, if required.
  • Represent Taylor Forge in professional and industry organizations.
  • Support Quality Control for testing, inspection and measurement of equipment in shop and field.
  • Learn and remain current with all code rules and requirements.
  • Assist with updating of the in-house programs.
  • Participate in general process improvements and initiatives.
  • Obtain Canadian registration numbers as required.

    Qualifications
    Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

    Education/Experience
    • Three or more years of design engineering experience in shell and tube heat exchanger manufacturing is required.
    • Experience using shell and tube heat exchanger mechanical design software, such as RCSWin or PV Fabricator, required.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field strongly preferred.
    • Oklahoma P.E. license, or ability to obtain such license, a plus.
